Similar to the movie industry's FilmFare, the Bollywood Music Awards,
held annually by the Bollywood Group, honors the achievements of
Indian entertainers, in particular focusing on the music
industry. These award ceremonies, held in the United
States to help bring non-resident Indians closer to their
motherland, rely heavily on fan opinions in designating the
award recipients after nominations are submitted by selected
professionals. Interspersed between the presentation of
the awards are guest performances by famous Indian artists,
which in the past have included Sonu Nigam and Kumar Sanu.
In 2003, the awards ceremony was hosted by the Bollywood Group
in conjunction with Sony Entertainment Television in Atlantic
City, New Jersey.
